It’s pretty much impossible to say enough about the need for dogs (and any other pets) to have a constant supply of good, clean drinking water. It’s incredibly easy to accomplish, too. Adding a fountain or two for your dog can help guarantee that the water doesn’t get knocked over, leaving your animal(s) with nothing to drink until you discover the problem.

Personally, I recommend making at least two water fountains available to your dog at any given time. That way, if one is emptied or knocked over, there’s a backup. If you have the room and funds for more, that’s even better. Although a lot of the nicer dispensers and fountains were kind of expensive in the past, you can get outstanding pet fountains at a very reasonable price these days. Below, I’ve featured the 75 oz. Drinkwell Fountain Water Reservoir from Drs. Foster & Smith, but you may also be able to find great deals at your local pet store.

Maybe if you’re Paris Hilton, and your jet-lagged pup needs a pick-me-up, but in our house, cheap rawhide strips seem to be the best buy.

Here’s what Mrs. Beasley’s has to say about this posh doggie gift tower:

Because our dogs are part of the family, we’ve created this delicious and healthy new tower of treats just for them. This cute two-tier tower has a plush doggie on the top and contains a specially selected assortment of all-natural gourmet doggie treats created for Mrs. Beasleys. Includes Pumpkin and Cheddar flavored cookies from Wet Noses, and an edible dental chew bone and All-natural Beef and Rice Jerky from Zacks. Tested and approved by our Old English Sheepdog, Baby Beasley!

Hmmm….I wonder how many Snausages and Milkbones I could get delivered for the same amount…I’m guessing the package would outweigh my tiny dogs.

It’s no secret that most dogs are natural swimmers (doggy paddle, anyone??), but that doesn’t mean you should always count on their swimming abilities. Kismet here spent this Fourth of July out on Vandalia Lake, where the water was anything but calm. Because there were so many boats on the water, we made sure she had a life jacket, just in case she happened to fall or jump into the water. When the lake gets crowded, the water gets choppy, making it harder for her to swim and harder for others to see her natural colors in the water.

As you can see by the pictures below, she had a great time out on the water. She wouldn’t stop grinning - Caribbean cruises couldn’t have made her happier. Best of all, she stayed safe the entire time. If you’re in the market for a dog jacket of your own, check out Fido Float Life Jackets at Drs. Foster & Smith. They range from about $16-$30, depending on the size your dog needs.

You can get your own Automatic Dog Water Stream for about $70 at Skymall. You could get some solar light fixtures and it would be a great watering hole for both day and night.

We have been horribly busy for a solid three weeks. I was really looked forward to last weekend…a long weekend at last! But I ended up spending Friday and Saturday helping my sister with her yard sale, then I had a out of town wedding to go to and it rained the whole rest of the weekend. Boy did those weather guys have it wrong! I went to bed at 9:00, but I still wasn’t a bit ready to go back to work.

I need a vacation at home, just me and my pups. A nice long one.

I often worry about my dogs safety when we’re away. I worry someone will stop by and unknowingly forget to latch the gate and my babies will get out and be run over, stolen…or worse. So I was thrilled when I was recently given the opportunity to receive one of these great dog in yard signs. These attractive metal signs come in three great shades; chocolate brown and cobalt blue and my personal favorite, grass green. They even provided the brass screws or cable ties to attach my sign to the gate. The company doesn’t accept credit cards, but has a good Karma policy–they ship your sign out fast and expect pay later. All they ask of their customers is that they send in their check just as quickly.

I have to say I feel a lot better now when I have to leave the house!

My youngest daughter also graduated college last Saturday and we had a house full of guests, which meant I had a full house to clean and tons of food to prepare. But in all, it worked out pretty well, my daughter was thrilled with her party and the guests all had a great time. Our nursing home residents seemed to really enjoy themselves as well. Now I’m ready for some R&R!

With six dogs and allergies my husband and I simply could not live without air purifiers. Our dogs are also washed frequently, so the pups are generally very clean and well groomed. I also sweep up dog hair and and mop the dog room floor daily up with a strange concoction of cleaning fluids, one of which is skunk shampoo, just to make sure we have no doggy odors. And still, I occasionally catch a whiff of Eau de canine. I wondered what other multiple dog families used? Any great ideas out there?

Most of us can’t be home 24-7, though our pets would prefer us to be. In fact, some pets are downright insistent upon it, acting out, barking and engaging in destructive behaviors when we leave them for even a short time. Many veterinarians and animal behaviorists believe that soothing music and sounds special to pets can help minimize separation anxiety and curb destructive behaviors.

The While You Are Gone DVD for Dogs features a virtual walk through the woods with sounds only dogs can hear, and the auto-loop function allows it to play all day. There are also CD’s for both dogs and cats with soothing music and special sounds designed to appeal specifically to pets.
